Petah-Tikva, Israel, March 4, 2005 – Civcom® (http://www.civcom.com), a pioneer in the development and manufacturing of tunable transponders and solid-state optical switches, announced today the launch of TODC - the world’s smallest Tunable Optical Dispersion Compensator. The TODC, which can be integrated into 300PIN MSA transponders for extending their reach, will be displayed at OFC/NFOEC 2005 exhibition, stand # 1115.
TODC, which is based on Civcom’s unique SFS (Solid Free Space) technology, covers the full C or L-band windows with narrow channel spacing (25GHz or higher) and exhibits less than 2 dB insertion loss. The low cost TODC is fully tunable, and is characterized by low power consumption. Civcom's TODC is available in a standard butterfly package size and is capable of a dispersion tuning range up to +/- 1700ps/nm and supports rates of up to 12.5Gbps.
Civcom's TODC is designed for single and multi-channel compensation as well as fiber emulation applications. The new product features the most cost effective solution for Metro and Long Reach optical networks, and is also available as a stand-alone unit.
Prof. David Mendlovic, Civcom’s CEO says:” The integration of an optical dispersion compensator in Civcom's standard 300PIN MSA tunable transponder extends its reach to 200km+ using standard NRZ modulation. This allows carriers to simplify their system and reduce its cost.”
The TODC butterfly package is under evaluation with selected tier-1 customers, and is now available in production volumes.
