CIVCOM® Showcases Live Demo 350km Future Generation Transmission Solutions At OFC-NFOEC 2006 in Booth 1220
March 2, 2006

Petah-Tikva, Israel, March 2, 2006 – Civcom® (http://www.civcom.com) a leading technology developer and manufacturer of Opto-electronic components, modules and sub-systems is proudly presenting at OFC-NFOEC 2006 in Anaheim first-ever live demonstration of 350km 10Gbps data transmission powered by Civcom’s Optical DuoBinary and Tunable Optical Dispersion Compensation (DuoBinary-TODC) Transponder.

Civcom’s DuoBinary-TODC Transponder is an Extended Long Reach widely Tunable or Fixed transponder designed for applications such as: DWDM Metropolitan, Regional, Long Hall and SONET/SDH networks. The dispersion tolerance reaches 350km with the implication that any Metro-ring with less than 350km span can be managed without external dispersion compensating modules and with fewer amplifiers. The TODC implemented in a DuoBinary System eliminates the back-to-back penalty that is introduced by common DuoBinary transmitters.

Civcom’s DuoBinary-TODC Transponder contains both a 10Gbps widely tunable transmitter using DuoBinary transmission coding, and a standard wide band receiver. The transponder’s interface is compatible with the 300PIN MSA and the I²C interface. Civcom’s DuoBinary-TODC Transponder uses a Mach Zehnder Lithium Niobate DuoBinary modulator to enable reliable operation across the entire C-band and over long distances. The DuoBinary transmitter combined with the integrated TODC enables the transponder to tolerate up to ±6000ps/nm of dispersion.

"In optical networks, the topic of dispersion tolerance is critical," says Meron Raz, CEO at Civcom. "This live demonstration confirms the compatibility between the new introduced technologies on which the 10Gbps and 40Gbps transponders will be based. We have proved that the standards will work together seamlessly, and validated the migration strategies that today's Telecom providers will use as they move forward to more advanced data and multimedia services."

Haim Laufer, Civcom’s Senior Vice President of Sales: “Civcom is committed to delivering the most inventive, dependable and cost-effective dispersion tolerance solutions to help our customers meet their key challenges of optimizing their networks by delivering new, more efficient and productive services today, with the assurance they also investing in their network for the future.”

Civcom’s 10Gbps Optical DuoBinary and TODC Transponder is the latest out of a series of 300PIN MSA Widely Tunable or Fixed transponders and testing platform available to the market. Civcom utilizes its expertise in electro-optic integration, in-house most advanced dispersion compensation technologies and tunable laser control algorithms to generate reliable, state-of-the-art products. Civcom’s transponders integrate with Optical DuoBinary, Optical Dispersion Compensation and Electrical Dispersion Compensation technology, offering broad compatibility and allowing a wide range of applications for networks reaching from 80km – up to 350km.
